Thousands of Bulgarian teachers around the country started 24 September 2007 an indefinite strike, seeking to double their pay. Education Minister Daniel Valtchev has offered primary and secondary school teachers, who earn an average of 200 euros per month, pay increases of 32 percent, but the teachers refused the offer. Valtchev submitted 10 October 2007 a detailed report to the country’s cabinet on the ongoing negotiations in the teachers’ payment dispute. AFP PHOTO/ BORYANA KATSAROVA
